Media Release October 2014 – RDA Welcomes Federation University Funding Injection

Regional Development Australia – Gippsland, has welcomed the announcement by Deputy Premier Peter Ryan last Thursday of major funding for an innovation and jobs precinct to be developed in partnership with Federation University.

Chair of RDA Gippsland, Richard Elkington said “This is terrific news for all of Gippsland.”

“We have been working with FedUni since April this year on conceptualising a project for the region, modelled on the very successful Ballarat Technology Park established 1995”, said Mr Elkington.

“This has been hugely successful hosting 30 technology companies and creating 1500 high tech jobs in Ballarat.”

“The aim is to reproduce this success in Gippsland, and I’m certain with the strong partnerships FedUni have been building that this will be achieved.”

Mr Elkington described the announcement as an “opportunity for Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley to be on the map,” and to “attract further investment in the future.”  He added, “RDA Gippsland looks forward to continuing our support of FedUni and our input into this new model”.

RDA Gippsland is the region’s peak entity for facilitating the delivery of social and economic opportunities for growth within the region, and is funded by the Australian Government as part of a nation-wide network of 55 RDA’s across Australia.
