Ryan launches Gippsland Freight Master Plan   – Media Release

 Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development, Peter Ryan, launched the Gippsland Freight Infrastructure Master Plan 31 January 2014 , addressing transport and freight challenges and opportunities within the Gippsland region.

 Speaking at Dyers Transport in Sale, Mr Ryan said the Gippsland Freight Infrastructure Master Plan was an extensive body of work which had included a great deal of consultation with the major manufacturing, transport and food processing businesses in Gippsland.

 Minister Ryan said the Master Plan formed part of the Victorian Government’s Latrobe Valley Industry and Employment Roadmap, released in July 2012.

 “Regional Development Australia (RDA) Gippsland has supported the project with funding of up to $100,000 toward the total project cost and the Committee for Gippsland, who have done a great job in managing the Master Plan, are providing the balance,” Mr Ryan said.

 “In August 2013, the Victorian Government also released Victoria – the Freight State, which outlined a long-term strategy to improve freight efficiency, to grow productivity and better connect Victorian businesses with the marketplace.”

Mr Ryan said the Gippsland Freight Infrastructure Master Plan was intended to work cohesively with the Gippsland Freight Strategy.

Mr Ryan said the Master Plan’s priorities, included increased funding for local roads, upgrades to the South Gippsland Highway, Leongatha Heavy Vehicle Route, Traralgon truck bypass, Sand Road Interchange, Drouin to Drouin South B-double access and Korumburra heavy vehicle route.

Mr Ryan said the Victorian Government was constantly supporting transport infrastructure across Victoria, and the $1 billion Regional Growth Fund had played a major part in local Gippsland projects such as works to Stoney Creek Road ($492,180), Lower Franklin Road, Foster ($730,415), Dollar Road, Dumbalk ($250,311) and the Wonthaggi Town Entrance ($1.15 million of a $2.85 million total project).

 “Since it was established in early 2011, the Regional Growth Fund has provided more than $365 million to support over 1250 projects across regional and rural Victoria, leveraging $1.5 billion in total investment,” Mr Ryan said.
