About Us

Regional Development Gippsland is one of a nation-wide network of 55 RDA Committees, representing all of Australia – and includes remote, rural, regional and metropolitan regions. RDA has a broad set of objectives aimed at enhancing the economic, social and sustainable development of Australia.

Each Committee is comprised of Members who are local leaders with broad and diverse skills and experience, as well as demonstrated networks within their region. Committee Members understand the challenges, opportunities and priorities within their local community. The RDA Gippsland Committee is supported by a partnership between the Australian and Gippsland Governments. Appointments to RDA Committees have been made by an open and public Expression of Interest process. Committees are renewed and refreshed on a regular cyclical basis.

RDA committees have five core functions:

  • Consult and engage with the community;
  • Support informed regional planning – over sighting the development of a strategic regional plan;
  • Promote whole-of-governments activities;
  • Promote government programs; and
  • Facilitate community and economic development.

In addition to these five core functions, RDAs variously become involved in activities that help pursue a sustainable development agenda in their region.

Different arrangements for the establishment of RDA Committees throughout Australia have been made with the relevant State, Territory and Local Governments to meet their differing needs. All 55 RDA Committees are open for business and details of all 55 committees can be found under the relevant state or territory heading at the national RDA website.

The Australian Government provides funding to support the operation of RDA Committees. In some jurisdictions, State/Territory and Local Governments are also providing funding and/or other forms of support to the Committees. The RDA Gippsland is supported by core funding from both the Australian and Gippsland Governments.
